IS THE FASHION INDUSTRY BECOMING GREENER?

There is endless talk when it comes to sustainability in the fashion industry and the effort to improve our environment from dedicated blogs to instagram accounts, spreading the word and putting pressure on fashion brands.

The question remains? Is the fashion industry becoming greener?

 The short answer is yes, but there is still vast room for improvement.

It’s still important to acknowledge the evident efforts many brands, including industry leaders are taking to better address pollution and labor issues. Similarly the motivation from smaller brands that are dedicated to working more sustainably across their products while spreading awareness. 

Unfortunately, many of the huge names across fashion are dragging their feet into making changes to their dated, harmful processes. Things such as using non-biodegradable packaging, harmful chemicals, the global impact and export of goods and most importantly, the quality of life of their garment workers. With the fast fashion industry only growing, more pressure needs to be put on brands to not just vocalise the plan to become more green, but to show real strategies that can make a change.

What can you do to help? 
The world has a long way to go before the effects of fast fashion are truly ruled out. For that reason, it is vital that the subject remains to be pushed and continuous valuable insight is given to both consumers and business leaders.

The journey to a more sustainable future is a collective effort, and we can only get to where we need by addressing the issues in its path. Nevertheless, despite the slow progress, it’s notable how eco-friendly fashion is beginning to get the recognition it demands and deserves. Manufacturers, designers, celebrities and influencers are starting to take responsibility for the materials they promote and the causes they advocate for.

The conclusion is that we all have a role to play in the equation by the products we purchase, the items we use, and how we take care of them from the time they enter our homes, to the moment they leave.
