Potting (in electronics) means filling in an electronic assembly with a gel or solid to resist damage from shock and vibration, and minimize or prevent corrosion from weathering.
- Zero uses a rubbery potting in the MBB, DC-DC converter, onboard charger, and other onboard enclosed circuit boards.
- These boards are non-repairable as a result and the component is often troubleshot and replaced as a "black box", but the ingress and vibration protection are good.
- Zero's BMS has a clear potting with grease applied on the board.
- The BMS relies on the battery casing plate itself for ingress protection, and on rubbery bushings on the mounting for vibration protection.
- The BMS can also be inspected and changed more easily than other boards.
