Potting

Potting (in electronics) means filling in an electronic assembly with a gel or solid to resist damage from shock and vibration, and minimize or prevent corrosion from weathering.

• Zero uses a rubbery potting in the MBB, DC-DC converter, onboard charger, and other onboard enclosed circuit boards.

  These boards are non-repairable as a result and the component is often troubleshot and replaced as a "black box", but the ingress and vibration protection are good.

• Zero's BMS has a clear potting with grease applied on the board.

  The BMS relies on the battery casing plate itself for ingress protection, and on rubbery bushings on the mounting for vibration protection.

  The BMS can also be inspected and changed more easily than other boards.
